See what I did there? I sucked you in with the title, and you may have been expecting the hilarity of Colin Jost (luckiest man in the world! I mean, Scar Jo? Come on!) and Michael Che, and instead you get me! Stick with me, I can crack off a decent one liner every once in a while. I also called this the weekend update because it means I don't have to do an update/journal tomorrow because as I said, the days tend to run into each other and there's not much to talk about. I did find myself checking to see what the date was yesterday as I wasn't sure what day of the week it was and today I was convinced it was March 30th, when it in all actuality is the 28th. Isolation life can be daunting at times.

Never thought I was a "classic sports" kind of guy. I like to live in the moment, and if I know what happened then my interest dissipates faster than a teachers parking lot Friday at 3:00. However, with no live sports other than wrestling ( and yes, I know it's sports -entertainment), I've enjoyed watching classic sports. Tonight I watched some of Calgary/Vancouver Game 7 and Ottawa/Toronto Game 7 both in 2004. Imagine that? A year in which there were two Game 7's involving all Canadian match ups. Watching these games has made me a bit wisftul. Watching Ottawa/Toronto and Bob Cole and Harry Neale are broadcasting the game. Now there were two beauties who were the perfect complement to one and other. To me, no broadcasting tandem has matched them for how they call the game since. Plus, the game featured a 4-1 Leaf win and represented the last time the Leafs won a round in the playoffs, and they did it with John Ferguson jr as the GM. I was 31 years old during the 2004 playoffs. Did I ever think it would be one heart attack, two marriages deep and 16 years later and counting and they still haven't won a damn round in the post season! Come on Leafs, once /if this season gets back on track, just win a playoff round or two! The other game made me wistful for a different reason. It highlights just how difficult it is to rise up in the world of sports broadcasting if you want to be a play by play man or colour commentator. Chris Cuthbert and Greg Millen are calling the game, and they are two damn fine elite broadcasters. Today in 2020 both are still at the top of the mountain calling games. There just is not that much movement in broadcasting! I have been calling games at the OHL/AHL level for 13 years to back that up. All good though. I love what I do, and love the challenge of trying to move up to the next level.

Onto other things. It was a shockingly quiet Saturday night in my 'hood, with a couple of families out. Not so shockingly there was the whiff of pot in not one but two locations in the quiet town of Waterdown. I only noticed it as I was filling my crack pipe (just wanted to see if you were still reading and paying attention! ) My daughter and I went to the park so she could roller blade. Don't worry, we didn't go near the playground and maintained appropriate social distancing. Do I feel the need to offer this disclaimer all the time? Yes, I do. If you go on any Facebook local "Neighbourhood Watch" group, everyone is an expert and a spy posting all sorts of "shocking" photos of people breaking protocol, which I get, but almost always the discussion degenerates into a pissing contest within about 10 comments. Enough about that. The weather sucked today- cold, windy and a bit rainy, but you gotta get out at least once a day!

Shout out to my wife the nurse who is on the front lines screening medical personnel before they enter the hospital, which of course is a very important job. Without telling too many tales out of school, she's actually met some resistance from people. Go figure! Lets keep supporting our front line health care workers, and those in the service industry making sure we get fed/gas in our cars and toilet paper on our rollers!

Lets flatten the curve

Steve
